However, Cassia's happiness is short-lived when a technical glitch reveals another face on her microcard, that of Ky Markham, an Aberration, someone who is not supposed to be matched due to his status as a societal outcast.

She learns that Ky is an Aberration because his parents were deemed traitors and exiled to the Outer Provinces. Meanwhile, Cassia's grandfather, who is also a rebel against the Society, gifts her a forbidden poem. Uncovering the Truth
As the story progresses, Cassia's world is turned upside down when Ky is taken away to a labor camp. Determined to find him, Cassia embarks on a dangerous journey to the Outer Provinces. Along the way, she discovers the Society's dark secrets and the truth about its control over its citizens.
