    Meeting the Three Billy Goats

In The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Paul Galdone, we meet three billy goats: Gruff, the smallest, followed by Gruff, the middle-sized one, and Gruff, the biggest. They live in a meadow where the grass is green and plentiful, but they soon run out of food. So, they decide to cross the bridge to the hillside, where they can feast on the lush grass.

However, the bridge is guarded by a terrible troll, who loves to eat goats. The smallest billy goat Gruff is the first to attempt to cross the bridge. The troll threatens to eat him, but the little goat uses his wit and tells the troll to wait for the middle-sized billy goat Gruff, who is bigger and would make a more satisfying meal.

    The Middle-Sized Billy Goat

When the middle-sized billy goat Gruff approaches the bridge, the troll makes the same threat. But the goat cleverly suggests that the troll should wait for the biggest billy goat Gruff, who is the largest and most delicious of them all. The troll, greedy and gullible, agrees to let the middle-sized goat pass.

Now, it's the turn of the biggest billy goat Gruff. As he approaches the bridge, the troll threatens to eat him. The big billy goat Gruff is not afraid, and in a show of strength, he charges at the troll, knocking him off the bridge and into the river below. The troll is swept away by the current, never to be seen again.

    Feasting on the Hillside

With the troll defeated, the three billy goats Gruff cross the bridge and reach the hillside. There, they find the grass even greener and more abundant than they had imagined. They feast to their hearts' content, happy to have outsmarted the troll and reached their new grazing ground.

In The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Paul Galdone presents a timeless tale of wit, bravery, and teamwork. The smallest billy goat Gruff uses his brains, the middle-sized goat Gruff uses his cunning, and the biggest billy goat Gruff uses his strength to outwit the menacing troll and secure their passage to the hillside. This classic story teaches children the value of working together and using their individual strengths to overcome challenges.
