As Poirot delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a web of secrets and lies. He learns that Renauld was not a businessman but a criminal who had fled South America with a large sum of stolen money. In the end, Marthe's greed and cunning nature led to her downfall, and she is arrested for the murder.
A Twist in the Tale

Poirot receives a letter from Renauld, written before his death, revealing that he was not the real Renauld but a detective hired to impersonate him. The real Renauld had survived the attack and was living under a new identity. Poirot tracks him down and uncovers the final piece of the puzzle.
In a surprising turn of events, the real Renauld confesses to the theft but denies any involvement in the murder. He claims that the stolen money was hidden in the villa, and Marthe had killed his impersonator to keep the loot for herself. Poirot, satisfied with the truth, leaves the case in the hands of the French police, concluding another successful investigation.
