An unexpected twist of fate lands Irene in a job for a German Major as a housekeeper. Now in Ternopol, she witnesses first-hand German brutality towards the Jewish population in the town's ghetto. Irene's empathetic nature stirs up and she instinctively helps the Jews by smuggling supplies and providing information. As time passes, she risks more by shielding a group of Jewish refugees in the Major's own cellar, right under his nose.
