Kenobi by John Jackson Miller is a captivating Star Wars novel that delves into the life of Obi-Wan Kenobi during his time in exile on Tatooine. It explores his struggles and the challenges he faces while trying to remain hidden and protect Luke Skywalker.
In Kenobi by John Jackson Miller, we find Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in the aftermath of the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. Kenobi, now known as Ben, has exiled himself to the desert planet of Tatooine, where he intends to watch over the infant son of Anakin Skywalker, who has now become the Sith Lord, Darth Vader. Ben's mission is to protect the child, Luke, from his father's influence and keep his existence hidden from the Empire.
Ben's life on Tatooine is not easy. He is constantly on the run from Imperial forces and bounty hunters, all while trying to keep a low profile. He finds work as a moisture farmer and tries to avoid using the Force, fearing that it could draw attention to him. Despite his best efforts, Ben cannot help but get involved when he sees injustices occurring around him.
As Ben tries to keep a low profile, he becomes involved in the lives of the local settlers, the Lars family, who are trying to eke out an existence on the harsh desert planet. He forms a bond with the young Owen Lars, who is trying to raise his stepbrother's son, Luke, and Ben becomes a protector and mentor to the boy, all the while keeping his true identity a secret.
Ben's peaceful existence is disrupted when he learns that a Tusken Raider, the native inhabitants of Tatooine, has been attacking the settlers. The situation escalates, and Ben is forced to reveal his Jedi skills to protect the settlers. He also forms an unlikely alliance with a local woman, Annileen Calwell, who runs a trading post in the middle of nowhere.
As Ben becomes more involved in the local conflicts, he discovers that the Tusken Raider attacks are not random but part of a larger plan orchestrated by a group of settlers who want to drive the Tuskens off their land. This revelation forces Ben to confront the dark side of human nature and the temptations of the Force. He also faces his own inner turmoil, struggling with his failure to save Anakin Skywalker from turning to the dark side.
Meanwhile, Darth Vader, now fully entrenched in his role as the Emperor's enforcer, becomes aware of a Jedi presence on Tatooine. He dispatches a team of Imperial agents, including the ruthless bounty hunter, Boba Fett, to hunt down Ben. Ben realizes that his presence is endangering the people he has come to care for, and he must make a difficult decision about his future on Tatooine.
As the situation on Tatooine reaches a boiling point, Ben decides that he must confront the dark forces threatening the settlers and his own existence. He unleashes his full Jedi powers to protect the Lars family and the other settlers from the Tuskens and the Imperial agents. In the process, he reveals his true identity to Owen Lars and entrusts him with Luke's care.
In the climactic battle, Ben defeats the Imperial agents and the Tuskens, but he knows that his victory is only temporary. He realizes that he cannot continue to hide on Tatooine, and he must find a way to fulfill his destiny and help bring balance to the Force. As the novel concludes, Ben makes a decision to stay on Tatooine, watching over Luke from a distance, as he continues to search for a way to defeat the Sith and restore peace to the galaxy.
