Her real name is Mumsie and she was taken from her mother, who is now a famous actress named Claire. John explains that he took June Bug away from her mother to protect her from the dangers of her world. Devastated by this revelation, June Bug feels a mix of emotions – anger, confusion, and betrayal.
The Journey Begins
Despite her father's pleas, June Bug decides to find her mother and learn the truth about her past. She takes off alone, leaving her father behind. Her journey leads her to Dogwood, West Virginia, her mother's hometown. Here, she discovers that her mother's career was built on the story of her missing daughter. Claire has never stopped looking for her, and her life has been consumed by the loss of her only child.
June Bug, now using her real name, meets her grandmother, who welcomes her with open arms. She also befriends a boy named Ziggy, who helps her navigate the unfamiliar town and its people.
