On the practical side, investments must be made in protective technology and staff. Firewalls, threat monitoring systems, and employee training help harden defenses in a host of ways. Data minimization limits vulnerability. Ongoing audits ensure controls stay current.

While institutions are needed to tackle bigger picture problems, citizens aren't helpless against cyber threats. By adopting smart personal practices, you can greatly reduce risks to yourself and your data, even as innovation advances at near light-speed. Think of it as the hygiene for your digital self.
