In Geekerella by Ashley Poston, we are introduced to Elle Wittimer, a die-hard fan of the sci-fi series Starfield. After the death of her parents, Elle is left in the care of her stepmother and stepsisters, who are anything but kind. She finds solace in her father's old Starfield memorabilia and a blog she runs under the pseudonym Rebelgunner, where she critiques the upcoming Starfield movie and its casting choices.

Meanwhile, Darien Freeman, a teen heartthrob, is cast as the lead in the Starfield reboot. Despite his initial excitement, Darien soon realizes that the role comes with a lot of pressure and criticism from the franchise's hardcore fans. He feels trapped in a life he never wanted, controlled by his overbearing manager and estranged from his true passions.

Unexpected Connection

Elle and Darien's paths cross when Darien accidentally texts Elle instead of his father. The two strike up a friendship, bonding over their shared love for Starfield and their struggles with their respective lives. As the ExcelsiCon, a Starfield convention, approaches, Elle decides to enter the cosplay contest as her favorite character, the legendary Princess Amara. Darien, on the other hand, is scheduled to make an appearance at the convention, but he dreads facing the judgmental fans. Their friendship deepens as they help each other prepare for the event, and they both start to develop feelings for one another.

Challenges and Revelations

As the convention draws near, Elle's stepmother forbids her from attending, leaving her devastated. Darien, too, faces his own set of challenges, including a scandalous tabloid story that threatens to ruin his career. Despite the obstacles, Elle and Darien decide to meet at the convention, both unaware of the other's true identity.

At ExcelsiCon, Elle and Darien finally come face to face, and their connection deepens. However, their happiness is short-lived as Elle's stepsisters publicly humiliate her, and Darien's manager tries to control his every move. In a dramatic turn of events, Elle's blog post about her experiences goes viral, and Darien stands up to his manager, asserting his independence.

A Fairy Tale Ending

With the truth about their identities finally revealed, Elle and Darien confront their feelings for each other. They share a heartfelt moment, and Darien helps Elle overcome her fears by encouraging her to attend the cosplay contest. Elle, in turn, supports Darien as he takes a stand against his controlling manager.

In a heartwarming conclusion, Elle wins the cosplay contest, and Darien delivers a heartfelt speech about the true spirit of Starfield. The two share a kiss, and their love story, much like a fairy tale, ends with the promise of a happily ever after.
