In Empire of the Sun, J.G. Ballard takes us into the heart of Shanghai during the second Sino-Japanese war. We meet Jim Graham, a young British boy who adores planes and dreams of a life filled with adventure. Some months into his adventures, Jim's fortunes take a turn as he is captured and interned in a Japanese camp, Lunghua.
