Although fatigued, Vladek manages to tell Art, "I'm tired from talking, Richieu, and it's enough stories for now." In his delirium, Vladek confuses Art for Richieu, the son lost during the war. The narrative subsequently ends, adding to the dreadful sense of loss endured by this family.
