The Quest to Save Artemis

In The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan, we rejoin Percy Jackson and his friends as they embark on a new adventure. This time, they are on a quest to save Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, who has been captured by the sinister Titan, Atlas. The story begins with Percy and his friends, Annabeth, Thalia, and Grover, attending a school orientation trip to the West Coast.

During a game of capture the flag, they are attacked by a group of monsters. In the ensuing battle, Annabeth is kidnapped, and the others are left to fend for themselves. They are rescued by the Hunters of Artemis, a group of immortal maidens who serve the goddess. The Hunters are led by Artemis herself, who is on a quest to find a missing monster.

The Prophecy and the Quest

Artemis' quest is to find and recruit a half-blood child who is destined to either save or destroy Olympus. The prophecy states that the child will turn sixteen and make a decision that will determine the fate of the gods. Artemis believes that the child is a young girl named Bianca di Angelo, who she and her hunters have been searching for.

Thalia, a demigod and daughter of Zeus, is also sixteen, and Percy fears that she might be the child in the prophecy. To prevent her from making a dangerous decision, Percy and his friends decide to join Artemis on her quest. They travel across the United States, facing various monsters and challenges along the way.

The Battle with the Titan

As they journey, they discover that the missing monster Artemis is searching for is a creature called the Ophiotaurus, which has the power to destroy Olympus. They also learn that the Titan, Atlas, is planning to use the Ophiotaurus to overthrow the gods. To stop him, they must reach the top of Mount Tamalpais before the winter solstice.

During their journey, they encounter Luke, a former friend who has turned against the gods and is now working for the Titans. Luke tries to persuade Thalia to join him, but she refuses. In a climactic battle, they manage to defeat Atlas and save Artemis. However, in the process, Bianca makes a fateful decision that leads to her tragic demise.

The Aftermath and New Revelations

After the battle, Artemis offers to make one of the group an immortal Hunter. Thalia, who feels disconnected from her father, Zeus, accepts the offer. This decision saves her life, as she would have been the one to make the fateful decision in the prophecy. Artemis also gives Percy a prophecy of his own, hinting at his future challenges and battles.

In the end, Percy and his friends return to Camp Half-Blood, where they mourn the loss of Bianca. They also learn that Annabeth is being held captive by Luke, who plans to use her as a bargaining chip against the gods. The book ends with Percy vowing to rescue Annabeth and stop Luke's plans, setting the stage for the next installment in the series.
