In Dust & Decay by Jonathan Maberry, we rejoin the teenage zombie hunters, Benny Imura and Nix Riley, six months after the events of Rot & Ruin. However, their journey is further complicated by the revelation that their trusted ally, Chong, has been secretly working with the bounty hunters. Chong's betrayal adds a layer of emotional turmoil to their already perilous situation, leaving Benny and Nix questioning the true nature of the world they live in.

While trying to rescue Lilah from Sanctuary, the group uncovers a shocking truth: the town's leader, Charlie Pink-eye, is still alive. They stage a daring rescue mission, successfully freeing Lilah and exposing the truth about Sanctuary to its inhabitants. In the process, they also confront Charlie Pink-eye, the man responsible for much of the suffering they have endured.
