Unveiling the Women of Christ’s Lineage

In A Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers, we take a journey through the lives of five extraordinary women who were a part of the lineage of Jesus Christ. The first story is about Tamar, who was wronged by her first two husbands and then by her father-in-law Judah. She took matters into her own hands and, disguised as a prostitute, tricked Judah into giving her a child, which would eventually become her redemption.

In the second story, we meet Rahab, a prostitute in Jericho. She saved the lives of two Israelite spies and, in return, requested that she and her family be spared when Jericho was conquered. Her faith in the God of Israel led her to become a part of the lineage of Christ, a testament to how God can use anyone, regardless of their past.

Embracing Faith and Loyalty

The third story introduces us to Ruth, a Moabite widow who chose to stay with her mother-in-law Naomi, after the death of her husband. Her loyalty and faithfulness to Naomi, and her eventual marriage to Boaz, a relative of Naomi, are remarkable. Ruth’s story is a beautiful illustration of God's redemption and His ability to transform seemingly hopeless situations into ones filled with hope and promise.

In the fourth novella, we encounter Bathsheba, a woman who was taken advantage of by King David. Despite the circumstances of her relationship with David, she was able to rise above her past and become a faithful wife and mother. Her son, Solomon, would later become a great king and a significant figure in the lineage of Christ.

The Chosen Mother of Jesus

The final story revolves around Mary, the mother of Jesus. A young, humble girl, she was chosen by God to give birth to the Savior of the world. Mary's trust and faith in God, despite the incredulous nature of her situation, serve as an inspiring example of submission and obedience to the will of God.

Throughout A Lineage of Grace, we witness the power of God's grace and His ability to work through imperfect individuals. Despite their flaws and difficult circumstances, these five women played pivotal roles in God's plan of salvation for humanity. Their stories remind us that God can use anyone, regardless of their past, to fulfill His purposes.
