John Candy was a married man. He met Rosemary Margaret Hobor, an artist from Toronto, Canada, in 1969, and they married ten years later.
The two had a strong bond. Hobor was Candy’s rock; she supported him during the highs and lows of his career and remained his wife till his death.
Rosemary is an artist, ceramicist, and sculptor. Today, she showcases many of her ceramic creations on her website, demonstrating her adeptness in sculpting plates, pots, and vases; and creating abstract paintings, amongst other artworks.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Christopher Candy (now 39) has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry. He is an actor and producer known for Where’s This Party? (2014), Contracted (2013) and To the Stones (2020).
Christopher has also showcased his talent in the music sphere, pursuing his passion as a Radio Host and DJ.
Like her brother, Jennifer Candy (now 43) chose the entertainment industry. She worked behind the scenes as a producer and stepped into the limelight as an actress.
Winning hearts in television shows such as “Liv & Maddie” and “Camp Candy,” Jennifer followed her creative heart into the theater, playing a crucial role as a producer in several Los Angeles productions.
John Candy suffered a heart attack and passed away in his sleep while filming “Wagons East!” in Durango, Mexico. As for his final resting place, Candy was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
John Candy’s remarkable career was commemorated with an induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 1998, four years after his death. He was further recognized as one of the first four entertainers to be honored by Canada Post on a postage stamp in May 2006.
In a heartfelt tribute, Toronto’s Mayor, John Tory, declared October 31, 2020, as “John Candy Day” to commemorate what would have been Candy’s 70th birthday.
