Dave and Sharon Ramsey’s Talented Children

Dave and Sharon Ramsey are proud parents of three adult children – Denise, Rachel, and Daniel. Following in their parents’ footsteps, the Ramsey kids are involved in the family business.

Rachel, for instance, is a financial speaker and author, carrying forward her father’s legacy in her unique way. With Ramsey, Cruze co-wrote and published the New York Times No. 1 bestseller Smart Money, Smart Kids in 2014. Rachel Cruze is also a regular contributor to the Dave Ramsay show.

Dave Ramsey’s Humble Beginnings

Dave Ramsey comes from a simple background. David Lawrence Ramsey III, born on September 3, 1960 in Antioch, Tennessee, comes from a family of real estate developers.

His father, a real estate developer, and his mother, realtor Sylvia Ramsey, weren’t people of huge wealth. As for his siblings, Dave has a brother named Scott Ramsey. Dave’s rise in life is quite the rags-to-riches story, stemming from his sheer determination and passion.

At the age of 18, Ramsey decided to take the real estate exam and started selling properties while studying at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

How Dave Ramsey Built His Fortune

By 1986, Ramsey had accumulated a portfolio worth more than $4 million. However, due to the implementation of the Competitive Equality Banking Act in 1987, several banks changed ownership.

They demanded repayment of his $1.2 million in loans and lines of credit due to his excessive debt. Unable to pay off these debts, Ramsey filed for bankruptcy in 1988.

Following a period of financial recovery, he began offering financial advice to couples at his local church. He went on to establish the Lampo Group in 1988, a financial counseling service, and self-published his first book, Financial Peace, in 1992.

Ramsey started his career as one of three rotating hosts of The Money Game on WWTN/Nashville radio station in 1992. The show later evolved into The Dave Ramsey Show, a three-hour call-in talk show focusing on financial advice. In 1994, he introduced Financial Peace University, a comprehensive personal finance course presented through videos.

Ramsey’s financial column was published by the Gannett newspaper group, but it was discontinued after they discovered that he had altered the names on the letters he responded to. He offered to reimburse them for the fees paid to him. The Dave Ramsey Show was broadcasted on the Fox Business Network from 2007 to 2010.

In 2014, Ramsey Solutions (formerly known as The Lampo Group, Inc.) underwent rebranding. The company is headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee, and in 2019, they opened a new 47-acre campus at that location.

Dave Ramsey’s $200 Net Worth

Dave Ramsey’s net worth is estimated at $200 million. However, contrary to many assumptions, Dave did not inherit his wealth.

In fact, he made ill-advised decisions early in life that led him to file for bankruptcy at 26. After battling this financial setback, he developed a unique approach to personal finance, leading to his current success and rich status.

With his multi-faceted approach to financial education, Dave Ramsey has built a substantial empire. Ramsey makes an estimated $30 million annually from his various endeavors, which include his radio show, his Financial Peace University courses, and book sales.

The main source of Ramsey’s income is The Dave Ramsey Show, which garners over 14 million listeners weekly. This platform gives him the opportunity to sell his course, the Financial Peace University, which is taken by a staggering one in 50 American households yearly and generates a significant proportion of his income.

Ramsey’s books also contribute significantly to his earnings, with his best-selling book “The Total Money Makeover” selling over 5 million copies. His other books, “Smart Money Smart Kids” and “Complete Guide to Money,” have also enjoyed success, further solidifying his foothold in the financial advisory space.
