Carrie Fisher was an iconic actress best known for portraying Princess Leia in the Star Wars series. Fisher lived an exciting life, filled with vibrant stories that still captivate her fans even after passing.

As such, most people want to know who Carrie Fisher’s husband was and what her personal life was like.

Carrie Fisher’s Romance With Harrison Ford

One of Carrie Fisher’s first romances began on the Star Wars set in 1976, where she first met fellow actor Harrison Ford. Sparks flew, and the pair had a brief clandestine romance while filming “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.”

The secret was well-kept until November 2016, just one month before she passed away, when Fisher unveiled her memoir, “The Princess Diarist.” It contained personal diary entries documenting her relationship with Ford.

Her One and Only Husband: Paul Simon

While filming Star Wars, Fisher crossed paths with musician Paul Simon, initiating a relationship that lasted from 1977 to 1984.

In their relationship, she briefly engaged in 1980 to Canadian actor-comedian Dan Aykroyd, a proposal that transpired on the set of their movie, The Blues Brothers. Fisher recounted, “We had rings, we got blood tests, the whole shot. But then I got back together with Paul Simon.

Fisher and Simon married in August 1983 but lasted less than a year, ending in July 1984. However, after their divorce, they rekindled their romance for a while.

During their time together, Fisher starred in Simon’s music video for “Rene and Georgette Magritte with Their Dog after the War.” Simon’s track “Hearts and Bones” spins the tale of their love affair, while Fisher is also mentioned in the song “Graceland,” written post-divorce.

Reflecting on these musical tributes, Fisher felt honored to feature in Simon’s songs.

The Final Love of Carrie Fisher’s Life

Following her relationships with notable personalities, Fisher embarked on a new romance with Bryan Lourd, a principal at the Creative Artists Agency. In various interviews, Fisher often referred to Lourd as her second husband, but an article published in 2004 affirmed they were never legally married.

They welcomed their daughter Billie in 1992. Interestingly, Fisher’s father, Eddie Fisher, mentioned in his autobiography, “Been There Done That,” Billie’s legal name is Catherine Fisher Lourd and “Billie” is just her affectionate nickname.

However, Fisher and Lourd’s union ended when Lourd left her for another man.

Carrie Fisher’s Tragic Loss and Battles

In December 2016, Carrie suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles and sadly died a few days later at the age of 60.

The cause of her death was reported to be sleep apnea, and, as stated, they found drug substances in her system, but it cannot be determined whether they contributed to her death.

In the past, she had openly talked about her struggle with mental health issues and substance abuse. “Drugs made me feel normal,” she explained in 2001.

An Actress and a Bestseller Author

Following the release of Return of the Jedi in 1987, Fisher wrote a semi-autobiographical novel, “Postcards from the Edge,” which garnered various accolades and scaled the bestseller list. In 1990, the story was adapted to cinema and directed by Mike Nichols.

It starred Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine, and Dennis Quaid.

Her writing prowess was further exhibited in the 90s when she published novels such as “Surrender the Pink” and “Delusions of Grandma.”

Besides her stories, Fisher’s literary contributions extended to numerous scripts and sitcoms. In 2008, she unveiled another autobiography, “Wishful Drinking,” in 2016, she released “The Princess Diarist”.

Fisher’s $25 Million Net Worth and Heir

Carrie Fisher had amassed a net worth of $25 million when she passed away.

Her daughter Billie Lourd was named the primary beneficiary of her estate. As such, Lourd inherited her mother’s wealth, including her personal property, rights to Fisher’s image and likeness, and an array of other assets.

Carrying On The Family Legacy: The Life of Billie Lourd

Carrie Fisher’s only child, Billie Lourd, is continuing to build her career in the entertainment industry. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she is now a successful actress.

She appeared in popular TV series such as “American Horror Story” and “Scream Queens”. She also made appearances in the recent Star Wars sequels, “The Force Awakens”, “The Last Jedi,” and “The Rise of Skywalker.”

She continues to honor her mother’s legacy and is using her platform to raise awareness about mental health issues, a topic close to her family’s heart.

Carrie Fisher’s life was a chronicle of vibrant stories filled with love and challenges. Her talent and resilience continue to inspire many despite her brutal battles.
