Simplify Nutrition: Dr. Joel Fuhrman Says Your Diet Is Killing You

Meet nutrition expert, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, in this episode of Simplify. Learn about nutritarianism and how it can help you to live a long, healthy life.
by Carrie M. King | Jul 27 2017

This week’s episode of Simplify finds Caitlin chatting with Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of the bestselling books on nutrition, Eat to Live and Super Immunity. Fuhrman is a passionate advocate of nutritarianism, which basically means eating as much nutrient-rich, health-bolstering food as possible.

“People actually feel ill when they try to eat healthier, which makes things more difficult. When you’re an addict […], it takes over your brain, so you keep wanting that food and you don’t feel well, unless you imbibe an addictive substance. If you try to eat healthy, you feel fatigued and you feel shaky and itchy.”

— Dr. Joel Fuhrman

Simplifying nutrition isn’t easy. With so much conflicting evidence and contradictory studies being published almost daily about diet, it’s easy to be confused about what you should be eating. However, Fuhrman’s approach breaks food intake down to its most basic levels, and gives you some handy acronyms to help you remember exactly what you need to eat plenty of. By the end of the episode, you should have a clear understanding of the nutritarian approach, which, according to Fuhrman has seen people beat illnesses like diabetes, all while losing weight.
