Million Dollar Habits: Think Like The World’s Most Successful People
The number of millionaires in the world is growing. According to Credit Suisse, there’ll be more than 87.5 million of them by 2026. Want to be one of them? Becoming a millionaire might be easier than you think.
After all, what’s the difference between us and self-made millionaires, people at the top of their fields, and people who seem to be successful at everything they do? Are they born with a talent the rest of us don’t have? Work harder, or longer? Or is it all just down to luck?
The Habits of the World’s Most Successful People Revealed
Bestselling author and speaker Brian Tracy — who’s a self-made millionaire himself — argues it comes down to something as simple as habits. And the good news about habits is that us mere mortals can replicate them, boosting our own careers, businesses, and lives in the process.
Tracy says there are few secrets in every rags-to-riches story that the rest of us can follow. And he has two books on the very topic — Million Dollar Habits and Get Smart! — which outline the mindsets and daily behaviors of the world’s most successful people.
Here are some of the secrets Tracy shares in these two books.
1. Set Goals — Both Long-Term and Daily

How can you be successful in life if you haven’t defined what success looks like for you? Tracy says you should set yourself clear long-term goals. Set a date you want to achieve them by, map out how you’ll get there, and be flexible about how you’ll achieve them.
And don’t forget to set yourself daily goals to ensure you’re making progress each day. Tracy says doing this in a notebook and setting your goals the night before will boost your chances of achieving what you set out to do.
“You can create your own future by changing your behaviors. You can make new choices and decisions that are more consistent with the person you want to be and the things you want to accomplish with your life.”
2. Change Your Money Mindset
We all know the thrill of getting a bonus or pay rise and buying ourselves something new. But Tracy says we need to turn this thinking about money on its head, and instead get pleasure from saving — not spending!
Tracy outlines what he calls the wedge theory to help you reach financial independence more quickly. What’s the theory? Whenever you get a pay rise, commit to saving 50% of the increase.
You can spend the other 50%, but saving and investing the first half will add up to a large sum if you do this over your lifetime.
3. Swap Mechanical Thinking for Creative Thinking

Mechanical thinkers are stuck in their ways. They’ll struggle to succeed because they won’t take risks, get out of their comfort zone, or solve problems with outside-the-box thinking.
Creating thinkers, on the other hand, have a growth mindset and focus on solutions, and this drives them forward in life.
Tracy says to think creatively, start by picking a problem in your life or business, drill down until you get to the root of the problem, then brainstorm multiple solutions before deciding which one you’ll start implementing.
“A goal or an objective unachieved, in any area, is merely a problem unsolved. This is why a systematic approach to problem solving, one that works at a higher level and more consistently, is absolutely vital for you to achieve the maximum success that is possible for you.”
4. Follow the Law of Three
The Law of Three dictates that just three of your daily work tasks will represent 90% of your results. So, to get the most out of each workday, figure out what these tasks are and dedicate more of your time and energy to them.
Tracy says to consult your colleagues and boss and ask yourself which of your upcoming to-dos would generate the biggest results.
Once you’ve got your top three, focus on getting them done before anything else on your to-do list.
