I Have No Idea How to Lose Weight — But These Books Helped Me

If you’re anything like me, you have “lose weight” as your New Year’s resolution year after year. Every January, I try cutting calories, hitting the gym, and many other hacks — from ice baths to kale smoothies — to shed the pounds. I even considered Ozempic.

But I never managed to lose weight, or I lost a few pounds only to put them right back on again.

In a bid to lose weight once and for all, I found an online guide called “Healthy Weight Loss Secrets.” It promised to teach you ways to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way — no ice baths, drugs, or kale in sight.

All the advice comes from leading nonfiction books on weight loss written by health experts, doctors, and nutritionists. I decided to give it a go. I had nothing to lose — except weight.

Get Expert-Approved Up-to-Date Advice

The guide is made up of five chapters, covering topics like diet, exercise, stress, sleep, and mindset. It only takes an hour to go through in total, and you’ll find a mix of audio lessons from top nonfiction books on weight loss, interactive exercises to apply the insights to your own life, and helpful recaps of the most important information.

For example, I learned how fruits and veggies can help you feel fuller compared to other foods from Eat to Live by physician and nutritional researcher Joel Fuhrman, and how dieting while sleep deprived can lead to muscle loss, not fat loss, from Feel Great, Lose Weight by Dr. Rangan Chatterjee.

I also worked through the exercises to find out my triggers for unhealthy eating and the lifestyle habits I wanted to change first.

Getting up-to-date advice from experts in an easy-to-follow format helped me finally build healthier habits.

The guide is available on the Blinkist app. Here’s how it works.

Learn Weight Loss Secrets in 15 Minutes

Get Inspired to Build Healthy Habits On the Go

I knew I needed to exercise more if I wanted to lose weight, so I started going for a morning walk and after-work run. To make these more enjoyable and productive, I listened to Blinkist on the go

Explainers are available in audio form, so you can learn about weight loss, nutrition, and sleep habits — or anything else you’re interested in — while out and about.

“When we started most apps were for social media or gaming. We wanted to do something different and build an app that would add genuine value to someone’s life.”
Holger Seim, CEO of Blinkist.

29 Million People Are Using Blinkist to Improve Their Lives

I was dubious if information I learned in an app could really make a difference, but it did. And I’m not the only one.

Blinkist has 29 million users around the world using the app to become better people.

The app says 91% of users have built better habits and 87% have made positive changes thanks to what they’ve learned on Blinkist.
