Farrah Fawcett was a cult icon after her role in the TV series “Charlie’s Angels.” Her vibrant personality, combined with her beauty, won over the hearts of millions of fans worldwide.

This article highlights her personal life, focusing on her relationships, from her husband Lee Majors to her long-term partner Ryan O’Neal

Farrah Fawcett’s Husband: Lee Majors

Contrary to what many believe, Farrah Fawcett’s husband was not the famous actor Ryan O’Neal. Instead, she was once married to Lee Majors, renowned for his role in “The Six Million Dollar Man.” The couple got married in 1973 and became a Hollywood power couple. However, they parted ways in 1979 and finalized their divorce in 1982.

The Fawcett-O’Neal Saga

After separating from Lee Majors in 1979, Farrah initiated a romantic connection with fellow actor Ryan O’Neal. They were never legally bound as husband and wife, but they remained partners for most of their lives. This partnership was blessed with a son, Redmond James Fawcett O’Neal, born in 1985.

Before his long-term relationship with Farrah Fawcett, Ryan O’Neal was married to Joanna Moore, an actress known for her roles in popular series like “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Perry Mason.” Joanna was Ryan’s first wife; together, they had two children – Tatum and Griffin.

In a 1994 interview with TV Guide, Fawcett admitted problems in the relationship. She said Ryan caused her heartache but also boosted her self-confidence.

In 1997, their troubled relationship reached a breaking point. O’Neal’s issues with infidelity and substance abuse took a toll, leading to their split. Fawcett ended the relationship after discovering O’Neal in an intimate situation with actress Leslie Stefanson. After the breakup, Tatum O’Neal, Ryan’s daughter, accused her father of physically abusing Fawcett. She said he had a volatile temperament and violent behavior.

A Turbulent Relationship with a Tragic Ending

Despite this tumultuous history, Fawcett and O’Neal reconciled in 2001. Reports from The Los Angeles Times and Reuters on June 22, 2009, suggest that Ryan O’Neal declared that Fawcett had agreed to wed him one day, however, she soon passed away from cancer.

Despite the absence of a matrimonial bond, Ryan O’Neal was undoubtedly the love of Farrah Fawcett’s life. Farrah and Ryan had an off-and-on relationship over the years. However, she turned to him in her final days, making it clear where her heart truly lay.

Ryan and Farah’s Son: Redmond James Fawcett-O’Neal

Redmond James Fawcett-O’Neal, the only child of Fawcett, was born in 1985. He has struggled with substance dependency and psychological illness for most of his adult life.

In 2008, Redmond and his father were arrested for possessing drugs at their home in Malibu. In April 2009, while on probation for driving under the influence, Redmond was arrested again for possessing narcotics. During this time, Fawcett was in the hospital.

In 2015, Redmond had his probation revoked and was sentenced to three years in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. In 2018, he was arrested and charged with attempted murder, robbery, assault, and drug possession for allegedly trying to rob a convenience store in Santa Monica.

He attributed his struggles to his parents while in jail, stating that drugs weren’t the real problem but rather the psychological trauma from his life experiences.

Due to mental health issues, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, antisocial personality disorder, and substance abuse, Redmond was found mentally unfit to stand trial. His trial was postponed, and he was transferred to a state mental hospital.

After his mother’s death, Redmond received a trust fund from her estate. The trust continues to manage Farrah Fawcett’s wealth and provides financial security for Redmond.

Her Best Friend

Fawcett’s closest friend was Alana Stewart, who stood by her during her last days. She even filmed a poignant documentary titled “Farrah’s Story,” chronicling Fawcett’s battle with cancer.

Her Last Goodbye

Farrah Fawcett passed away on June 25, 2009 at 62. She died from cancer, which she had been battling for several years. Her last words were a heart-wrenching “I love you” expressed to Ryan O’Neal, according to his memoir “Both of Us: My Life with Farrah.”
